Podcasts I’ve worked on with AWOL media:

Ripped from the Wall is AWOL’s investigative podcast. We cover stories on campus and in D.C. more broadly.

The Hum is AWOL’s storytelling podcast. We interview students and professors and ask them to share their exprience on diffrent topics. Rather than relying on narration we mostly let the interviews speak for themselves

Worries Over Workday

  • We looked into AU’s switch to Workday for payment and HR, the problems some student workers had, and RA and Workday issues outside of our campus.

  • This was my last RFTW episode as podcast director. I once again led the team and taught new members. Also as podcast director I run weekly meetings and for this episode I got to teach new members about audio editing in Adobe Audition.

AU without the PD: Looking to the past to change the future of policing on campus

  • We investigated stories of some students’ negative experiences with AUPD, and recent campus movements to imagine a future on campus without the police.

  • This was the first podcast I worked on for AWOL. I helped with research and interviewed Stive Early.

The Lost City

  • We told the story of the lost Black community that lived in what is now Fort Reo Park in Tenleytown.

  • I helped with research, and recording the narration. I also conducted the interview with Professor Charles Jermaine Jones.

AU After Carbon Neutrality

  • We looked into AU’s sustainability programs, carbon offsets, and the planned removal of the student-run community garden in order to add a new sports center on campus.

  • This was the first episode I produced as Podcast Director. I led the team every step of the way and taught new members about research, interviewing, script-writing and recording. I also worked on editing this episode and interviewed Megan Litke, who works in the AU sustainability office.

Investigating IAP

  • We looked into AU’s International Accelerator Program, where some international students start their time at AU. We looked into allegations that these students are isolated in their first year.

  • This was my second RFTW episode as podcast director. I once again led the team and taught new members. Also as podcast director I run weekly meetings and for this episode I got to teach new members about audio editing in Adobe Audition.

This episode was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists in their college media Mark of Excellence awards as a finalist in region two.

Under Pressure

  • Students at American University tell us about the internship culture at AU, where they feel pressure comes from, and how to not let jobs define your self worth.

  • This was my second Hum episode as Podcast Director. I led the team, oversaw recording, edited the final product and taught audio editing to new members.

Music in Isolation

  • We spoke with students about how their relationship with music changed over the pandemic. Some left their instruments in the past while others couldn't wait to get back to them.

  • I helped chose the topic, helped with sourcing, conducted an interview, and narrated this episode.

Hardest Goodbyes

  • We asked students about their hardest goodbyes and they opened up to us about boyfriends leaving the country and beloved dance teachers passing away.

  • I helped chose the topic, and helped with sourcing and script writing.

Experiences at a PWI

  • Students of Color at AU tell us about going to a Predominately White Institution. We also talked to students for whom English is their second language, about learning in a non-native language.

  • This was my first Hum episode as Podcast Director. I led the team, oversaw recording, edited the final product and taught audio editing to new members.
